You just install on your laptop and put in the same serial number as for your desktop - it is not "assigned" to you desktop - it is assigned to the programme and you just use the same serial number for the same product.
with your serial number and ask for a link to download X4 again - can I strongly suggest you save that download so that it will be available if you need it again in the future - I always save all downloaded programmes to a DVD along with a text file containing the serial number so that I can just install again should I need to.
